How to modify a registered work on Patamu

It is not possible to change a timestamp already made because any modification would cancel its legal validity. However, it is possible to update the status of a work (i.e. draft, final, etc.) or the assigned license, remembering that for each change a new corresponding timestamp is needed. We'll explain how to proceed in this tutorial.

Timestamping is a procedure with legal value that allows you to assign a certain date and time to an electronic document containing within it a creative work and the declaration of authorship for the work itself. It guarantees probative effectiveness, as established by the European Directive 1999/93/EC and subsequent amendments.

For this reason, it is not possible to change a timestamp already made since each timestamp certifies with certain date the existence of the work and the authorship declaration at the time of the deposit, and any modification would cancel its legal validity. In case you want to correct an incorrect timestamp, you can make a new one by entering the correct data and report the incorrect one to This email address is being protected from spambots. However, it is possible to update the status of a work (i.e. draft, final, etc.) or the assigned license, remembering that for each change a new corresponding timestamp is needed.

We'll explain how to proceed in this tutorial.

1) Access your My works page

2) In the works list, click on the small arrow next to the work status or on the orange button located next to the license type.

3) Choose the new status of the work or the new license, and click on Next

4) Upload the work file and any extra files and click Next

5) Check that the data you entered is correct and that the preview of the authorship declaration doesn't contain any errors.

6) If everything is correct, be sure to click on the "Confirm and Generate Timestamp" button at the bottom of the page. If the procedure is carried out correctly you will receive a confirmation email.

7) You can also go back and change the data you entered by clicking on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the page.

These simple steps will allow you to quickly update the status of the work, and make a new corresponding timestamp.

To avoid consuming the timestamps you have at your disposal, we encourage you to always check carefully that the data is correct before confirming the timestamp.

What happens when we want to change the title of a work or add/delete a co-author?

The answer is the same: since at the time of the deposit an authorship proof is generated to attest with legal value the filing date, it is not possible to change the titles of the works or add/delete authors after making the deposit.

However, if you deposited the work with a temporary title and you need to modify it later, or if for any reason you want to insert or remove an author, you can deposit the work again with the new title or with a new author using a new timestamp, and selecting the option "derives from other works".

At the last step of the deposit process, you will be asked to indicate if the work you are depositing derives from one or more other works. At that point, you can indicate the previous work as the original work.

This way, you can prove that you are the author of that work from as early as the original date.

You can view the previous files, and therefore the starting time of copyright protection, from the updated work page, where the wording - highlighted in blue - "This work is an update of the work xxx" will be visible.

By clicking on the title of the work you will be redirected to the page of the original work from which the current one derives.
